No5, Welsh Pony - 234
This is the 5th locomotive built for the FR and the first of the 'Large Englands'. Welsh Pony was built and delivered in 1867. She entered service in June 1867, and operated on the Ffestiniog Railway quite successfully for around 69 years. She was withdrawn in 1938 after failing her hydraulic test.
She remained unused until the 1980's when she was put on display outside the Porthmadog Harbour Station on a plinth in the car park. In 2002 she was removed from the plinth and is now stored at Glanypwll.
The STT&Cos 'Welsh Pony' is built using the locolines 'prince' kit, and resembles the loco as she was in the 1920's (or as close as we can get to it at this time), she was completed in March 2010, and officially entered service on the line June the same year. Photos of the STT's Welsh Pony are avaliable below. The photo to the left is of the real Welsh Pony in its currant Blue undercoat.
